After ordination in Rome, Don Augustyn was assigned to St. Mary Magdeline Parish . He then taught English at Quigley South, earning a Masters degree in English from Notre Dame and residing at St. Denis Parish. Don pursued doctoral studies in Linguistics at the University of Chicago.

Don married Linda in 1977. They had four wonderful children, three boys and a girl.

Don worked as a purchasing director for the Railroad Retirement Board. He retired after twenty five years of service due to ill health.

Don went to the Lord in May of 2006.
