Quigley Class of '61 Renunion
left Mundelein near the end of second theology and
enlisted in the U. S. Navy for an appointment to Officer Candidate
School (OCS). Tom was
commissioned a Navy ensign in 1967 and rose to the grade of captain.
Tom is married to the former Mary Mosher (sister of our
departed classmate, Tom Mosher) of Wilmette, IL.
They have four grown, adopted children and live in Burke, VA
near Washington, D.C.
Tom served on active duty for 27 years and had a broad naval career.
He qualified in deep sea diving and salvage, submarines,
pilot of manned deep submersibles, and cruisers and destroyers.
He received a Master of Science degree from the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and served on the staffs of the
Chief of Naval Operations and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
He was privileged to command three Navy ships, the deep
submersible MYSTIC (DSRV-1), the gas turbine guided missile frigate
USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37), and the gas turbine Aegis guided missile
cruiser USS VINCENNES (CG-49).
After retiring from Navy active duty in 1993, Tom worked for
18 years as a defense contractor supporting various Navy projects.
He is fully retired (from working for money), is a qualified
Civil War battlefield tour guide, and is improving his skill playing
the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipes.
