Thanks to everyone who attended and took part yesterday's forum on
Martin Luther King. The turnout was outstanding (it rivaled the record we
set for our Sept. 11 forum) and the audience was enthusiastic. We'll be
writing up a report on the event, including photos and audio files, as
time permits. Thanks are due especially to Salim Muwakkil, Cliff Kelley,
the Chicago Temple, and CAN TV.
Chicago Media Action appeared on yesterday's Cliff Kelley show on WVON, and in yesterday's Sun-Times. Two mentions of the film we're screening also appeared in this week's Chicago Reader movies section. And, word is that an announcement of the forum was aired Saturday, January 17, on Chicago Public Radio. (We should receive a tape of the Cliff Kelley appearance soon, and plan to digitize it and post it to this website.)
Chicago Media Action is scheduled to make an appearance on the January
13, 2004 newscast on CBS Channel 2, on the issue of portability in cell
phone usage, particularly as it relates to monopoly power and government
oversight. The story is connected to an article in
the Chicago Sun-Times last week.
Happy new year. After a two-week layover after our protest of Herr Powell, we're getting back into actually doing stuff again. The January newsletter has been sent out to our general e-mailing list. Plus, we're working on promoting and organizing two events for January. Watch this page for more details.
Some 20 people came to the protest against Michael Powell, despite freezing temperatures and competition from three other events organized by Chicago activists at the same time. A longer report of the protest--complete with photos, audio, and the lyrics of the songs we sang--is here in part.
